Nigel is a consultant and arbitrator with national firm Mills & Reeve and an adviser to litigation funder Ampla Finance.

Nigel is an honorary life member of family justice organisation Resolution, having served on its national committee for all but two years since  first being elected in 1991. He is the only person to have been national chair of family justice organisation Resolution twice (1995-97 and 2016-18) and has previously chaired both its mediation and training & learning committees. He is passionate about improving the experience of families faced with relationship breakdown and is best known for his campaigning work in relation to no fault divorce, which culminated in the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act receiving Royal Assent in June 2020.

Nigel received the prestigious Cornwell Award for Outstanding Contribution to Family Law at the Family Law Awards 2019 and is shortlisted for the Lifetime Contributor category at the Legal Week Innovation Awards 2020.

Away from the law Nigel is a governor and keen supporter of the world class Chethams School of Music in Manchester.
