Support Through Court is a charity that provides assistance and support to people going through court alone. Our volunteers provide emotional and procedural help which empowers people to better access justice.
The justice system was not designed for litigants in person and by helping people access legal aid, organise their documents, understand basic court procedures, and giving emotional support, our volunteers improve the situation for everyone in court.
As the lockdown eases and we move back into working in the courts, we are anticipating a huge increase in the need for our services as we help get the wheels of justice working again, for everyone. The worrying levels of incidents reported by domestic abuse charities, caused by the hothouse effect of the lockdown, will only increase the delays and demands on the Family Courts. In the civil courts, Covid-19 and the lockdown have created a backlog of evictions, repossessions and employment claims.
Help must be available to those without legal representation when the courts reopen. Support for people to keep their homes, maintain contact with children, move away from an abusive relationship and fight economic disadvantage.
To re-open support for vulnerable court users safely, we need your help. Please donate.
Following Government guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, Support Through Court staff members are working remotely. This means that acknowledging and processing cheques may take up to several weeks. In order to avoid delays we kindly ask that any supporters who wish to make a donation, do so via Virgin Money Giving or by direct bank transfer if it is possible.
If you are a UK taxpayer, we receive an extra 25p from the Inland Revenue for every £1 you give at no extra cost to you. If you have donated by cheque or direct bank transfer, please take a moment to either:
